What Students Will Learn

This DIY Robotics Set introduces students to the fundamentals of robotics and coding through hands-on construction and graphical programming. Students will build a functional robot from modular components and learn to control its movements, sensors, and outputs using a drag-and-drop coding interface. Key learning outcomes include understanding basic mechanical assembly, sensor integration (e.g., ultrasonic, infrared, or line-following), and algorithmic thinking. Students develop problem-solving skills as they debug programs and optimise robot behaviour for tasks such as obstacle avoidance, line tracking, and automated responses.

Who It's For

Designed for students in Years 3 to 8 (ages 8–14), this kit is suitable for classroom STEM programs, after-school coding clubs, and library makerspaces. It aligns with subject areas including Digital Technologies, Design and Technologies (engineering principles), and general Science inquiry. The graphical coding platform makes it accessible for beginners while offering enough depth to challenge intermediate learners.

Australian Curriculum Links

This product directly supports the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies F-10, particularly in the areas of data representation, algorithms, and programming (AC9TDI4P01, AC9TDI6P01, AC9TDI8P04). It also addresses Design and Technologies content descriptions related to producing designed solutions (AC9TDE4P01, AC9TDE6P02) and Science inquiry skills involving fair testing and data collection (AC9S4I03, AC9S6I04). The kit is mapped to the STEM F-10 integrated curriculum, promoting cross-disciplinary problem-solving.

Coding Platform

Students program the robot using a free, block-based graphical coding environment (similar to Scratch or Blockly). No prior text-based coding experience is required. The platform runs on Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS, and includes built-in tutorials and example projects to support classroom instruction. For advanced students, the kit also offers optional text-based coding (Python or C++) via the same software interface.

What's in the Box

Each kit includes: 1x main control board (microcontroller with built-in motor drivers), 2x DC motors with wheels, 1x ultrasonic distance sensor, 1x line-following sensor module, 1x infrared remote control, 1x rechargeable battery pack (USB-C charging cable included), 1x acrylic or ABS chassis frame, assorted screws, nuts, and spacers, 1x screwdriver, and a printed quick-start guide. All components are reusable and compatible with additional Stemology expansion packs (sold separately).

Classroom Setup & Requirements

Each student or pair requires a computer or tablet with internet access for the coding platform (offline mode available after initial download). The robot is powered by a rechargeable battery pack; a USB-C charging cable is included. No soldering or specialised tools are needed. Recommended for groups of 2–3 students per kit. A clear floor space of approximately 2m x 2m is ideal for robot testing and challenges. Teachers should allow 10–15 minutes for initial setup and software installation.

Support & Warranty

All Stemology products come with a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects. For technical support, curriculum integration advice, or replacement parts, contact our team at admin@stemology.com.au. We also offer free online professional development webinars for teachers using Stemology kits in the classroom.

Bulk & School Orders

Schools can place orders via purchase order (PO) – we accept all Australian school PO systems. Bulk pricing is available for orders of 10+ kits, with further discounts for class sets of 20 or more. For a custom quote or to discuss multi-classroom bundles, email admin@stemology.com.au or call our school sales team. Delivery is Australia-wide with tracking provided.
