What's in the Box
Each kit includes a solar panel, a wind turbine module with blades, a lightweight car chassis, wheels and axles, a rechargeable battery pack, connecting wires, a small DC motor, and all necessary hardware (screws, nuts, and assembly tools). A detailed, illustrated instruction manual guides students through step-by-step construction and offers extension ideas for testing under different light and wind conditions. No additional components are required for standard operation.
Classroom Setup & Requirements
The activity requires minimal classroom setup. Students can work individually or in pairs at standard desks or tables. For optimal solar testing, access to direct sunlight or a bright desk lamp is recommended. Wind-powered tests can be conducted using a handheld fan or by placing the car in a breezy outdoor area. Basic tools (such as a small Phillips-head screwdriver) may be needed but are not included. Estimated build time is 40–60 minutes, with additional time for experimentation and reflection. The kit is reusable and durable enough for multiple classes.
