What Students Will Learn

This multi-layer rolling ball track introduces foundational principles of physics, engineering, and design thinking. Students will explore concepts of gravity, motion, force, and energy transfer as they observe balls traveling through different levels and pathways. The hands-on construction process fosters problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and iterative testing. Learners will also develop fine motor skills and an understanding of cause and effect, making this an ideal tool for inquiry-based STEM exploration.

Who It's For

Suitable for Foundation to Year 6, this product aligns with early and primary school STEM education. It is particularly effective in science, mathematics, and design and technology lessons. Teachers can integrate it into structured investigations, free-play discovery sessions, or collaborative group projects. The open-ended nature supports differentiated learning across a range of abilities.

Australian Curriculum Links

This resource supports multiple content descriptors within the Australian Curriculum: Science (F-6) – exploring forces, motion, and energy; Digital Technologies (F-6) – applying computational thinking to design and test solutions; and STEM F-10 – developing critical and creative thinking through hands-on problem solving. Specific links include ACSSU005 (objects move in different ways), ACSSU076 (forces can be exerted by objects), and ACTDIP004 (following and describing simple sequences of steps).

Coding Platform

No coding required. This product is a purely physical, screen-free STEM resource, ideal for classrooms where hands-on learning and unplugged activities are prioritised. It can be used independently or as a precursor to digital coding concepts such as sequencing and debugging.

What's in the Box

Each set includes multiple wooden or durable plastic track layers, a set of rolling balls, connectors and supports for assembly, and a user guide with suggested configurations and classroom activity ideas. All components are designed for repeated classroom use and meet Australian safety standards for educational materials.

Classroom Setup & Requirements

No specialist equipment is needed. The track can be assembled on a flat desk or floor space measuring approximately 60 cm x 40 cm. Setup time is minimal, and the product is suitable for individual, pair, or small group work. Storage is compact, and all pieces are easy to clean and maintain. Teachers should allow 10–15 minutes for initial assembly and demonstration.
