Students will explore the principles of motion, force, and energy transfer as they build and operate their own remote-controlled vehicle. This hands-on kit introduces key STEM concepts including circuit construction, gear ratios, and wireless communication. Learners will develop problem-solving skills through iterative design and testing, gaining practical understanding of how electrical signals control mechanical systems.
Designed for students in Years 5 to 8, this kit is ideal for STEM electives, science and technology classes, and after-school engineering clubs. It supports cross-curricular learning in Design and Technologies, Science, and Digital Technologies, making it a versatile resource for upper primary and lower secondary classrooms.
This kit aligns with the Australian Curriculum: Science (ACSSU097 – forces, ACSSU155 – energy transfer), Design and Technologies (ACTDEK019 – design and production processes), and Digital Technologies (ACTDIP017 – digital systems and data representation). It also supports the STEM F-10 framework by integrating inquiry-based learning and engineering design processes.
No coding required. The kit uses a pre-wired remote control system, allowing students to focus on mechanical assembly and understanding wireless control without the need for programming. This makes it accessible for beginners and ideal for introducing core STEM concepts without technical barriers.
Each kit contains a complete set of components: chassis frame, wheels and axles, motor with gearbox, battery holder, remote control module, receiver circuit board, connecting wires, screws, nuts, and assembly tools. All parts are durable and designed for repeated classroom use. No additional materials are required to complete the build.
Students will need a clear, flat surface for testing their vehicles, such as a desk or floor area. Basic tools are included, but teachers may wish to provide small Phillips-head screwdrivers for easier assembly. The kit requires two AA batteries (not included) for the vehicle and two AAA batteries (not included) for the remote. Estimated build time is 45–60 minutes, with additional time allocated for testing and modification. Suitable for individual or pair work.
